Monica Maughlin, Senior Consultant: The relationship is the most important thing in therapy. You want someone you can trust, connect with and feel safe being honest with. First reflect on what you’re looking for and what you need help with. Ask for a brief consultation to see whether they listen well, and if you feel safe and respected by them. It is okay to move on if you don’t feel that you are getting what you need. Just because one therapist isn’t a good fit doesn’t mean another won’t be.
Beth Danehy, FEAP Director: Finding a therapist who’s a good fit is key—therapy works best when you feel safe, heard, and understood. FEAP can help by listening to your concerns, clarifying your goals, and connecting you with therapists who match your needs. Our services are free, confidential, and tailored to support you. While we can’t guarantee you’ll find the perfect fit right away, FEAP is here to support you through the transition into therapy.
